Proficiency Testing (PT) Activities

Proficiency Testing (PT) Activities

Proficiency Testing (PT) Activities

Proficiency testing activities is used as part of the assessment process to assess the ability of laboratories to perform competently calibration/tests/inspection for which accreditation is held¹. Other than satisfying the ISO/IEC 170252 requirement, it is also an important tool in evaluating the comparability of tests and calibration results among laboratories. NMIM proficiency testing activities include Proficiency Testing and Measurement Audit program.
Proficiency Testing (PT)

Proficiency Testing (PT)

Proficiency Testing (PT) is an interlaboratory comparisons in which the test item is distributed sequentially among two or more participating laboratories and each laboratory’s result are compared to assigned (reference) values established by NMIM.
Measurement Audit (MA)

Measurement Audit (MA)

Measurement Audit (MA) is a comparison whereby a well characterised test item is sent to a single laboratory and the results are compared to a reference value established by NMIM.

/ Scientific Metrology

Calibration Services

Scientific metrology is concerned with the establishment of units of measurement, the development of new measurement methods, the realisation of measurement standards, and the transfer of traceability from these standards to users in a society.

Radiation Thermometry
Various applications of radiation thermometry encompasses Malaysia’s 12 National Key Economic Area (NKEAs) particularly the Oil & Energy, Palm & Oil, Tourism, Electronics & Electrical, Agriculture and Healthcare. NMIM’s Radiation Thermometry Laboratory is responsible for maintaining and disseminating Malaysia's standards for accurate non-contact temperature measurement in many sectors that spans from medical - human body, food safety - frozen food to manufacturing - metal production.

Completed Projects

National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) is responsible for the maintenance and dissemination of the national standard for length measurement. NMIM is equipped with two set of iodine-stabilised He-Ne laser systems and on top of the hierarchy for traceability of length, dimensional, angle and form measurements. These laser systems are in accordance with recommendations set by the Consultative Committee for Length (CCL) of the Bureau International des Poids et Measures (BIPM). NMIM is capable to perform the calibration of many types of dimensional measuring instruments, gauges and components.

What is metrology?
"Metrology is the science of measurement, embracing both experimental and theoretical determinations at any level of uncertainty in any field of science and technology"

Bureau International des Poids et Mesures

How does metrology support trade?
Having metrological control lessens any unfair commercial advantage or trade practices. This ensures that trade measuring instruments are fit for their purpose and meet international standards.

Metrology can help a government establish consumer, business and international confidence in an economy’s products and services, regulatory frameworks as well as reduce technical barriers to trade for export and safeguard quality of imports, among other things.
