SHAH ALAM, 19 Oct 2018: Malaysia has been awarded with Countries and Economies with Emerging Metrology Systems (CEEMS) Award for Excellent Achievements in Legal Metrology in Developing Countries from International Committee of Legal Metrology (OIML).

The OIML CEEMS Award (previously the "OIML Award for Excellent Achievements in Legal Metrology in Developing Countries") is a special award given to an individual, a national service or a regional legal metrology organisation that has contributed significantly to legal metrology objectives at national or regional levels.

The award was presented to Malaysia at a ceremony in conjunction with the 53 rd OIML Meeting from 9 to 12 October 2018, in Hamburg, Germany. The Malaysian delegation, attended the ceremony on the capacity of OIML Invited Guests and was led by the Secretary-General of Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Yahaya; Senior Director of National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM-SIRIM), Dr. Osman Zakaria and Chairman Executive of MCM, Tuan Haji Ibrahim Hamzah.

Past winners of the prestigious award include Jordan, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, France, Tanzania, Serbia, Korea, Saint Lucia and Kenya. The winner received a special OIML engraved trophy as well as an invitation to International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML) meeting where the award was presented. The collective work of three parties namely the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia- SIRIM, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and Metrology Corporation Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. provides a unique model for a developing country like Malaysia by establishing effective trade measurements that focusses on national legal metrology system.

The system which encompasses legislation, traceability, enforcement and verification of trade transactions, also extends to the regional level and has improved fair trade, consumer protection and fraud elimination in the palm oil and rubber industries.

National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) received  Best Malaysian Innovative Product Award 2018 dan Good Innovation Mark in ITEX 2018. The innovation project titled MYRM Tint is from Electrical Group by Dr. Mohd Nizam Abdullah, Mr. Muhammad Zawawi Samsudin, Mr. Mohd Khairi Khalid and Dr. Mohd. Nasir Zainal Abidin.
